The Akamba people originate from the Republic of Kenya and reside mainly in the Machakos, Kitui and Makueni Counties. But, as Kenyans, many have spread all over the republic and abroad. Akamba organizations can be found in Europe, and in particular the UK, and the United Sates. The Akamba Association of America Incorporated (AAA), was conceived and created by the Akamba members residing in Southern California. Even though, most members are fluent in the Kikamba language (mother tongue) meetings are held in English.
Since its inception, the organization has extended to include members from other States of the US and also to include non-Akamba Kenyan members. The organization's goals are to promote cooperation among its members, and to unite them for the purposes of helping one another when catastrophic difficulties arise, such as critical illnesses, and death. Further, the organization seeks to help members to learn about opportunities in education, business and investments within their immediate areas of residence.
The majority of the Akambas residing in Southern California and forming the organization, are professionals, in their own right. Their professions extend from the areas of medicine, education, business, engineering, law and the arts.
As a corollary to its existence, the organization also provides members with opportunities for cultural, social, social-economic interactions. Members enjoy the camaraderie of having same background from Ukambani and elsewhere in Kenya.
